Towering 2000 feet above the Colodaro River, Dead Horse State Park provides a breathtaking panorama of sculpted pinnacles and buttes. If legend is correct the park gets its name because it was once used to corral wild mustangs roaming the Mesa. Cowboys rounded up these horses, herding them across a narrow neck of land and onto the point. In one of these corrals horses were left on the Mesa where they died for lack of water, sadly within view of the Colorado river below. The park is beautiful with several iconic images commonly thought of when you imagine this area.
