Painted rock
This little slice of BLM is a bit off the path but I always enjoy a stay for a night or two here. It's quite, it's very dark at night so the stars seem alive and there's history in them rocks! Not sure why it is called painted rocks however, the petroglyphs are carved into the basalt hill, no painting involved. These petroglyphs represent two types, the western archaic style and Gila style. The first are based on symbols dating back to 7500 bc, and the Gila take on a more human or animal form. The meaning is lost as these artists drew from visions and interpretations of life's events and today we cannot know all that was intended
