Ute Lake State Park, NM
As we entered into New Mexico, I remember how much we enjoyed our time here two years ago. The State Parks are wonderful and in the north central region where we are, they are empty. Most of the parks are located on or near a reservoir so there are birds attracted to the water, deer that come to the waters edge and endless opportunities to hike. Two nights at Ute Lake, just across the border from Texas we enjoy the solitude with a quiet nights sleep, some fabulous steaks we bought in Texas, Blue’s silly cat behavior and watching a storm skirt the park on either side of our location. Northern NM received snow falls of up to 19 inches in the mountains.
They have had a hard year in the SW. The grounds are dry and hard so the recent moisture is welcome by the local. For us, we’re heading further south to enjoy the warmth and see some new areas we have yet to see.
