Gulf Island National Sea Shore, Davis Bayou and Ocean Springs

Ocean Springs is the little town across the bay from Biloxi, Loved this little town. Just a stones throw down the beach you find the Gulf Island National Sea Shore. The park was established in 1971 to protect the wildlife, barrier islands, salt water marshes and historic structures extending 160 miles along the coast to Okaloosa Florida. 80 percent of the park is below the surface as submerged lands. The barrier islands are the outstanding feature in this park with sparkling white sands deposited by rivers draining from the Appalachian mountains. The barrier islands block the ocean waves that would otherwise strike the mainland with greater forces. At this time of year, the park does not run ferries to the islands, so sad.

After we checked out Ocean Springs we bought some fresh shrimp for dinner. I picked up a Gumbo spice pack and Gary and I enjoyed our own version of Gumbo. According to Gary the NOLA (New Orleans Louisiana) Gumbo ain't got nothing on Delys.

We hiked the nearby bayou and found our first Gator. The marshes are full of amazing birds, many I have never seen. We came home to a purring Blue cat. When he gets really excited, he gets a poufy tail, similar to when he is frightened. His tail in the picture is twice it's normal size.
