Westward-ho

A summer road trip is at hand, this time out west. Crossing SD with temps in the 90’s and heat index of 100 brings back childhood memories of family trips to the same area. Our first night was in the beautiful SD state park of Palisades just across the border near Sioux Falls. It was such a surprise to be trekking across the prairies and stumble on this little oasis of pipestone walls carved by the Split Rock Creek.
We’ve put our new folding bikes to the test at Palisades and they work great.
The parks in the Dakotas are very nice, in fact they equal what we have in MN, just different. Instead of lonely call of loons, you can enjoy the cackle of a Ring Neck Pheasant or warble of a meadow lark. We woke early for a 4 hour drive to the Bad Lands and an evening at the Interior camp grounds. An OK facility with some fantastic pets. Meet Henrietta the Bison. We’re looking forward to touring the badlands and then on to Custer State park for a few days.
