While the guys got up early to fish on this last day of the snook season, I caught the morning mist.

My favorite salad
One of my favorite salads, or maybe it's an appetizer, is sliced avacado and pear, drizzeled with a balsamic reduction and shaved Parmesan cheese on top. And while we are in Florida, I always choose the local avacado's which are twice the size of the Mexican hass variety. Unlike those little expensive abacado's from south of the boarder, these are picked just before they are ripe. And they taste so creamy and good! Plus this is as easy as it gets to make, how can you go wrong.

Good night for a fire
On the eve of Thanksgiving, Gary and I had a campfire while listening to an owl calling out across the canal, what a beautiful night and so thankful for the opportunity to experience days like today.

Fish for dinner
We finally hit one of our fishing locations and we will be here for 2 full weeks through thanksgiving. As we backed into our river side spot, I open the door and enjoy the smell of fresh pine wafting from the trees near our site. After days of fishing for a Snook in the slot without any luck (lots of snook but none between 28-32 inches). I got tired and switched to fishing for Brim with success. After all, we came here to catch and eat fish!
Mid Florida
Never a fan of the traditional RV parks I must confess that there are a few that I really enjoy. As members of Passport America we can try a few each year for a few days at half price. Not far from Gamble Rogers is just such a place. Adelaide Shores is clean, has a nice pool and very nice residence. The palm trees are well groomed and I was amazed to see that ferns grow between the old frons. It goes without saying that Spanish moss drips from almost everything else that resembles a tree. Best of all, the locals go to bed early giving Blue and I some nice walks after dark.

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area
Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) this windswept park is named for Florida folk singer Gamble Rogers. The beach is the most popular feature at this park, with beautiful sunrises, good surf and sand are far as the eye can see. But there's more to this facility, just across A1A thre is access to the ICW and 32 new sites. Located in Flagler Beach near the small town it's a sleepy local which is just fine with us. The park lost a few of the beach access walkways but camping is still great. Now that we are in FL, we purchased our fishing licenses and hope to catch some dinner soon. There are fish in these waters but so far all I've caught was a blue crab and Gary had two lures bit in half. Both are good signs. I'm thinking I might just ditch the pole for a bag with some stinky bait and catch me a crab dinner!

St. Augustine FL
Lions Bridge
In the far north east corner of Florida sits this nations oldest city and my favorite in the south east, St. Augustine. Just a short bike ride from an equally nice state park, Anastasia and you have the makings for a great place to visit. Sure it's a bit touristy but look at what you get, Anastasia island has beautiful beaches, a stone fortress built by Spanish colonists, a pedestrian friendly street scape made for shopping and even a light house. Throw in some good places to eat and you have it all! It was hard hit by the recent hurricane, Mathew but it is recovering fast and we spent the day in town and almost all the shops were open. Good thing as I really needed some sun dresses for later this season. I found a lovely little boutique, Shopaholic that had buy two at $19 each and get one free! Oh yes I did! Pizza on the bike ride back to the park with some Grateful Dead playing and you have a good day in this girls opinion.

St Mary's and Cumberland Island National Sea Shore
Along the Atlantic coast there are a few gems worth exploring. St Mary's in the southern most tip of Georgia is an example of one such place. This little town thrives because of its close proximity to Cumberland Island and the National Parks operation of a ferry to the island. We never hit this in time to make one of the two crossings daily and that is unfortunate. The island has all the expected activities like hiking and shelling but it also has historic ruins, wild horses and a beautiful beach. Next time, we will make a point to get to the docks on time.
